Cutting Costs

Outside the window
the flies whirl in the long grass.
He watches
fascinated.
He thinks of Mexico
long-reeded sand-dunes
hot coloured shorts.
"The paper in front of you
will increase turnover
by cutting costs. Cuts
to the labour force will be minimal"
The voice is a murmur
as his trouser-seat works
it's sweaty way up
the crack in his arse.
He has to. He's got to.
No. Really. He has to - even
in front of the finance committee -

Some one prompts him
and he says yes,
sticky itch crashing in his ears.
